George M. Muia

Mr. George Muia is a career Customs and Tax professional with over 35 years of practical experience earned during his employment at the Kenya Revenue Authority. During that period George had a rare opportunity to serve at an executive level in all core revenue departments namely; Customs, Domestic Taxes, and Investigations & Enforcement.

As the Project manager for the Customs Reforms and Modernisation Project, George was instrumental in the successful development and implementation of modern Systems and Technologies that were aimed at enhancing Kenya’s status in the ease of doing business, World Bank Annual Ratings.

George also served as Head of the Customs Policy Division which is the KRA technical team responsible for formulating fiscal budget proposals for submission and defense at the National Treasury. Upon concurrence, these submissions are adopted as National proposals for consideration at East African Community Sectoral Council for Trade.

This rich exposure provides George with a 360-degrees knowledge of all Kenyan taxes that gives him a deeper competence in resolving compliance challenges experienced by most taxpayers. He has attended various trainings and conferences as well as trade negotiations; regionally and internationally among various other professional skills. He has been a beneficiary of various training programs sponsored by; the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and The World Bank. He is a Corporate Governance practitioner and an alumni of the Center for Corporate Governance Kenya (CGC)

George is a 1987 Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) graduate of Pune University, India, and also has a postgraduate qualification in tax administration.
