Gemma Gachai

Gemma Gachai is a seasoned Tax professional in Kenya with over 34 years of service at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). During her distinguished career, she gained extensive experience in Tax Administration, working in key departments including Value Added Tax (VAT), Domestic Taxes, Investigations & Enforcement, and Legal Services.

Gemma was instrumental in establishing the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Division at KRA, an initiative designed to reduce the backlog of tax disputes by promoting facilitated, out-of-court settlements. This approach strengthened relationships between KRA and taxpayers while ensuring quicker, fairer outcomes.

She also played a pivotal role in the Tax Disputes Resolution Division, which introduced greater objectivity and autonomy in resolving tax disputes. Her expertise lies in guiding businesses through KRA objections, ADR processes, and dispute resolution strategies that protect compliance while minimizing conflict.

Academically, Gemma holds a Bachelor of Commerce (University of Nairobi), an MBA degree, a Diploma in Corporate Governance, and a Certificate in Mediation. She brings a unique combination of technical tax expertise, governance knowledge, and mediation skills to help clients resolve complex disputes with confidence.
